What Is Logmate & NZ Compliance Overview

Updated over a month ago

What Is Logmate?

Logmate is a NZTA (Waka Kotahi) approved electronic logbook and compliance platform for commercial drivers and transport operators in New Zealand. Launched in 2014, Logmate was one of the first approved electronic logbooks in the New Zealand market.

Logmate serves three types of users:

  • Drivers — use the Logmate App to record work-time and maintain a compliant logbook, and the Driver Admin Portal to manage their account

  • Transport Operators — use the Operator Admin to manage drivers, TSL numbers, vehicles, and view logbook records

  • Enforcement Officers — can request and receive logbook records directly from drivers

Who Needs A Logbook?

Under New Zealand law, commercial drivers are required to keep an accurate work-time logbook if they drive vehicles over certain weight thresholds or provide passenger transport services. Your logbook must be true, accurate, and complete.

Logmate meets all NZTA requirements for an approved electronic logbook — you can use the Logmate App in place of a paper logbook.

How Logmate Helps You Stay Compliant

Logmate makes compliance easier through:

  • Real-time work-time tracking — see your remaining drive time, break requirements, and daily/weekly limits as you work

  • Automatic break reminders — notifications when a break is required

  • Violation warnings — alerts before you approach a compliance limit

  • Automatic logbook delivery — completed shifts are sent to your operators automatically

  • On-the-spot inspection export — produce a logbook record for a NZTA officer in seconds
