Taking Rest Breaks

Learn how to record your rest breaks in your Digital Logbook

Updated over 10 months ago

There are two types of breaks that you are required to take as a commercial driver:

  • 30min rest breaks during your Cumulative Work Day

  • 10 or 24 hour rest breaks between your Cumulative Work Days or Work Periods

In this article we will show you how to log these different types of breaks.

30min Rest Breaks

  • When you are on duty in an active shift in your logbook you will see a countdown timer letting you know when your next break is due.

  • When you are ready to take a break click on the Break Button at the button of the main dashboard.

  • Fill out the form and press save.

  • The countdown timer will show the amount of time remaining on your break in order for it to count as a legal break.

  • Once the countdown timer is green and displaying '00' then you are good to start work again and can log your next entry.

  • If you return to work (and log another entry in your logbook) before your timer is back to '00' any break time you took will be considered work time.

10 Hour/24 Hour Rest Breaks

  • These two breaks occur between shifts in your logbook and are started by the act of Ending Your Shift.

  • Once you End Your Shift you will see a countdown timer to let you know when you can legally return to work and satisfy your work/rest time requirements.

    • If you have available time in your Cumulative Work Period then the rest time required will be 10 hours.

    • If you do not have available time in your Cumulative Work Period then the rest time required will be 24 hours.
