Why Can't I Start a New Shift?

Common reasons the Mobile App does not let you start a new shift.

Updated today

Common reasons the Mobile App does not let you start a new shift.

You have not rested long enough

After ending a shift, you must rest before starting a new one:

  • Between shifts: 10 hours minimum rest

  • Between Work Periods: 24 hours minimum rest (after 70 hours of work-time)

The Mobile App shows a countdown timer on the home screen. The NEW SHIFT button appears when the rest period is complete.

Logmate warns you but does not prevent you from starting a shift with insufficient rest. If you start early, an Off Duty Violation is recorded. See What Are the NZ Work-Time Rules?.

You have an active shift

You can only have one shift open at a time. If a previous shift is still active:

  1. Open the Mobile App.

  2. Tap REVIEW & LOCK SHIFT on the home screen.

  3. End the shift if it is still on duty.

  4. Lock the shift.

After locking the shift, the rest countdown begins.

Your Software Licence has expired

You need a valid Software Licence to start new shifts. If your licence has expired, the home screen shows a notice.

To fix this:

  • Contact your operator if they manage your licence

  • Renew your own licence in Logmate Admins

See Subscription and Payment Issues for details.

Your profile is incomplete

You must complete your driver profile before starting shifts. Open the Mobile App and check if a profile completion prompt is shown. Fill in all required fields and tap Save.
