How Does Odometer Recording Work?

How Logmate records odometer readings and calculates distance.

How Logmate records odometer readings and calculates distance.

When is the odometer recorded?

  • Start kms β€” recorded when you create a Drive entry. You enter your odometer reading before you start driving.

  • End kms β€” recorded on the next entry after a Drive entry. When you switch to Break, Other Duty, or End Shift, the Mobile App asks for the current odometer reading. This becomes the end kms for your previous Drive entry.

How is distance calculated?

Logmate calculates distance by subtracting start kms from end kms for each Drive entry. The total distance for a shift is the sum of all Drive entry distances.

The odometer must be equal to or greater than the last recorded reading for that vehicle.

Can I fix an incorrect reading?

Yes β€” but only in active (not locked) shifts. See Edit Logbook Entries for how to edit an entry. Once a shift is locked, odometer readings become permanent.

Editing an odometer value records a modification. See What Are Modifications?

Tips

  • Read your odometer before you start driving

  • Round to the nearest whole kilometre

  • Check your readings before locking your shift
